Yerawada: Drain Diversion Underway to Facilitate Flyover Work at Shastrinagar Chowk

As excavation is set to begin, the traffic department has devised measures to regulate vehicle movement, introduce diversions, and prevent congestion.

Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has begun the diversion of a drain near Shastrinagar Chowk in Yerawada to remove an obstacle hindering the construction of a flyover and grade separator. The project, aimed at reducing congestion on the Pune-Nagar Highway, is being carried out by the Special Projects Department of PMC.

To address the long-standing traffic congestion at Shastrinagar Chowk, PMC initiated the flyover and grade separator project. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) granted the necessary permissions, leading to an acceleration in the work process.

Several key preparatory tasks, such as design finalization, soil testing, and other technical assessments, have already been completed. Furthermore, an application for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) has been submitted to the Traffic Police Department to ensure smooth traffic movement during the construction phase.

As excavation is set to begin, the traffic department has devised measures to regulate vehicle movement, introduce diversions, and prevent congestion. However, the presence of a drain running close to the project site has posed a major challenge. To resolve this, the Special Projects Department has started the process of partially diverting the drain.

This diversion work is being carried out at a rapid pace and is expected to be completed soon. Once it is finished, and the Traffic Police Department grants clearance, the actual excavation work for the flyover and grade separator will commence.

Since official clearance from the Traffic Police Department is still awaited, the excavation work for the flyover is likely to be delayed. Authorities are currently working on completing all necessary technical procedures to obtain the required permissions.
