Pune: Pune city has successfully managed to halt the spread of the Zika virus, with no new cases reported in the past two days. This marks a significant turnaround after several weeks of infections.

A total of 66 individuals, including 26 pregnant women, had contracted the virus. The health department has confirmed that all patients have now fully recovered.

The first case of Zika in Pune was identified on June 20, followed by additional cases in the Erandwane and Mundhwa areas.

In response, the municipal corporation took swift action by spraying insecticides, conducting health screenings, and sending blood samples of suspected cases to the National Institute of Virology.

From June 20 to October 6, the city saw 66 confirmed cases of Zika. Given the heightened risk to pregnant women, special precautions were taken.

Among the 26 pregnant women who were infected, 23 underwent anomaly scans due to their pregnancies being over 16 weeks along, with no serious issues detected.

In a reassuring update, Dr. Suryakant Devkar, a health officer from the health department, announced that all previously infected patients have recovered, and no new cases have emerged in the last two days.
