Aamir Khan meets Sharad Pawar

ST CORRESPONDENT

Pune: Actor Aamir Khan met Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Chief Sharad Pawar in Pune on Thursday to inform the veteran politician about the works done by his Paani Foundation in the field of water conservation for last three years.

Pawar himself took to social media congratulating the foundation on its achievement while also advising the actor on the way ahead.

Pawar wrote on social media that he thinks the work done by the Paani Foundation has become a ‘people’s movement’ and that in lieu of the unstable monsoon and weather pattern of our country, there should be more such efforts to conserve water.

Pawar put forward the example of Israel in terms of sustainable use of water in agricultural for a country like India where 60 per cent population is dependent on agriculture.

The work done by Aamir Khan’s organisation has been in news in the recent times, not only for the work done by them to create rainwater stoppage, percolation barrages and grids with the help of villagers around the State, but also for the innovative and creative outreach done by the foundation through participation of celebrities from national as well as regional cinema and television. The project had also received Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ active support.

Pawar was prompt in making a comparison between Paani Foundation’s works and the works done by Agricultural Development Trust, Baramati, an institution that NCP chief founded along with his elder brother Appasaheb Pawar.

He mentioned that during the 1972 drought, Australian missionaries had reached out to people with a ‘Food for Hunger’ campaign, to which he had objected, asking them to change it to ‘Food for Work’, thus asking people to work on water conservation projects for food, solving the water crisis in the long term.

The NCP chief also declared that he will help the foundation in any way needed and contribute to this important mission.
