Pune, 28 January 2026: Maharashtra was plunged into deep shock and grief after Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar died in a tragic airplane crash. The accident occurred at 8:46 am today while he was travelling from Mumbai to Baramati. Five other people travelling with him were killed on the spot.
The news spread rapidly across the state, leading to an outpouring of grief from political leaders, officials, and citizens. Several senior leaders and renowned personalities from Maharashtra and across India paid heartfelt tributes, remembering Ajit Pawar for his long political career and administrative role in the state.
Ajit Pawar’s mortal remains will be kept for public viewing from 4 pm onwards at the ground near Vidya Pratishthan Vidyanagari Chowk in Baramati. Citizens will be allowed to pay their respects till late night.
The funeral procession will begin at 9 am on Thursday from Gadima Sabhagruha. It will pass through Gadima Chowk and Vidyanagari Chowk before reaching Vidya Pratishthan grounds via the internal road near the Marathi school gate. The last rites will be performed at 11 am at the Vidya Pratishthan ground.
Security arrangements have been tightened in Baramati as large crowds are expected to gather to bid farewell to the senior leader.
