Pune, 12th August 2026: Shirur MP Amol Kolhe has urged Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to implement the proposed Pune–Nashik semi-high-speed railway project on its original alignment. He said the route should pass through Chakan, Manchar, Narayangaon, Sangamner and Sinnar, as initially planned.
During his meeting with the minister, Kolhe highlighted the public support and movement that had taken place in favour of the project. He stressed that the original route would better serve both local communities and industrial hubs along the corridor.
He further said that the project should not be diverted from its original alignment, as it would ensure wider regional benefits. According to him, the concerns raised during the public campaign should be taken into account while finalising the route.
Kolhe also proposed the development of a terminal at the Chakan airport site under the PM Gati Shakti program. He said improved air connectivity, along with rail infrastructure, would significantly boost Pune’s industrial and economic growth.
In addition, he demanded a Dedicated Freight Corridor connecting Uran, Talegaon, Chakan and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, with linkage to the Nhava Sheva port. He noted that industries in MIDC areas currently rely heavily on road transport, leading to higher costs, delays and road congestion.
He said a dedicated freight corridor would offer a faster, more economical and reliable transport system for industries, while also supporting long-term industrial expansion in the region.
Railway Minister Vaishnaw assured Kolhe that the demands would be considered positively, indicating that the proposed projects could strengthen both passenger and freight connectivity across Pune, Nashik and adjoining areas.
