Pune, 4th May 2026: In the by-election held in Baramati after the death of senior NCP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Sunetra Pawar secured a massive victory, winning by a margin of 2,18,930 votes. Her decisive win marks a significant political moment for the constituency.
With this result, Sunetra Pawar becomes only the second woman MLA from Baramati. The first was Malatibai Shirole, who was elected in 1962. After nearly 64 years, the constituency has once again elected a woman representative, making this a historic return of female leadership.
Baramati has traditionally been a stronghold of Ajit Pawar, who dominated elections in the region for years with consistent and large-margin victories. His influence remained strong across multiple elections, reinforcing his position as a key political figure in the constituency.
In the 2024 Assembly election, Baramati recorded a high voter turnout of 71.86 percent. Ajit Pawar secured over 1.81 lakh votes and won by a margin exceeding one lakh votes, continuing his long-standing electoral success in the region.
Despite her landslide victory, Sunetra Pawar appealed to party workers and supporters to avoid celebrations. She said the result comes at an emotional time, as many are still remembering Ajit Pawar, and urged everyone to maintain restraint and dignity.
She emphasized that supporters should honor his legacy through calm and respectful conduct, rather than public celebrations or displays of victory.
