BVLF, PMC create children-friendly space at Salunke Vihar

ST CORRESPONDENT

PUNE: Hoping to establish a children-friendly city, the Bernard Van Leer Foundation (BVLF), a Netherland-based organisation working in early childhood development, in partnership with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), has set up a children-friendly space with things such as wall arts, painting pathways, rope art and colouring play area at the Anusayay Sadba Lonkar Garden in Salunke Vihar.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between BVLF and PMC in 2018. They have initiated a few child-friendly programmes successfully in different parts of the city.

Under its ‘Urban95 initiative’, the BVLF and PMC have painted spaces in the park, which will create accessible infrastructure for children in the age group of 3 to 6.

The children’s sensory park has pergolas, xylophone with mirror finishing and few coloured pathways on the existing structure.

Suhail Chaturvedi, Coordinator, Urban95 Pune, said, “This is the fourth Urban95 project in Pune. Earlier, we had created such spaces at Shivarkar Maternity Hospital, Sambaji Garden with kids sensory colour and at a playschool in Aundh.”

Chaturvedi said, “In the existing infrastructure, we have coloured spaces in a child-friendly way. Children are usually attracted to pink colour, which is light in colour.”
