City doctor becomes first Indian to win patent

PUNE: Dr Jayant Palaskar has become the first Indian to win the US and European patent in dentistry. Dr Palaskar is the Head of Department of Dentistry in the Sinhagad Dental College, Pune. 

He has developed a device to record centric jaw relation and orientation jaw relation simultaneously, accurately and precisely, for which he has got two separate patents from the USA and the European Union. 

The Central government has taken note of this achievement by granting Rs 50 lakh subsidy to manufacture the device. There is no other device available across the world to take centric jaw relation. Dr Palaskar’s device will help dentists and patients as the gadget will save patients from multiple visits to the dentist. This instrument will help match upper and lower artificial and irregular teeth. Patients suffer a lot if the teeth are not matched properly.

Dr Palaskar is currently serving as the Dean of MUHS, Nashik.
