Pune, 27 January 2026: City is expected to experience cloudy weather today due to an interaction of opposing wind systems over Maharashtra, leading to increased moisture in the atmosphere. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a light rainfall alert for parts of North Maharashtra.
The city has been recording a steady rise in temperatures over the past few days. Yesterday, Pune’s maximum temperature crossed the 30°C mark. Shivajinagar recorded 31.6°C, while Lohgaon touched 32.5°C, indicating a gradual warming trend across the region.
Meteorologists say an approaching western disturbance over north and central India is influencing weather conditions. When combined with easterly winds, the system is increasing cloud cover over several parts of Maharashtra, including Pune.
Meanwhile, Mumbai and Thane witnessed unexpected rainfall early this morning, even as residents were enjoying winter conditions towards the end of January. Moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea have created favourable conditions for rain in the region, prompting the IMD to issue a yellow alert for both districts for the next three hours.
Weather experts explained that increased humidity over the Arabian Sea and a change in wind direction have led to dense cloud formation along the Konkan coast. The interaction between cold winds from the north and moist sea winds has resulted in localised rain-bearing clouds, causing light showers in Mumbai and Thane during the winter season.
