Coronavirus Pune: 14-day quarantine not mandatory for travellers

ST Staff

Travelling to Pune and worried about the 14- day quarantine? Do not worry as the Pune administration has waived off the 14-day quarantine rule, which was mandatory earlier.

As per the new guidelines, those who are travelling to Pune for any office purpose or to pick up and drop their family member will not be home quarantined for two weeks. They can return to their destination once they are finished with the task. This clause is applicable only for the traveller who will show no single symptom of the novel coronavirus. The new guideline is only for visitors who plan to come to Pune for a short period.

The team deployed at Pune Railway station as well as Pune Airport are already conducting a medical check-up along with the screening of every individual. Those who will be showing a single symptom will need to home quarantine immediately.

Pune being an epicentre of the contagion is witnessing a continuous spike in the new cases with region reporting over 9,000 cases. This seems to be a significant move amid the rising cases of COVID-19.

It seems the significant decision was taken based on the continuous problems faced by the travellers. People who want to travel to Pune are unable to travel as public transport is yet to recommence.

Earlier, the 14-day quarantine was mandatory with a test if any traveller showed symptoms of coronavirus disease.

Reportedly, the decision was taken by the district collector Naval Kishore Ram. Pune Mirror quoted the collector, "Incoming passengers to the city by air or rail do not have to stay here in-home quarantine for two weeks any more. People have started moving from one city to another for work and they may not be able to stay back for this long. They will, however, have to strictly follow norms laid out by us. A person showing even the slightest COVID-19 symptoms will have to be quarantined at home.”
