EPFO alerts PF members about fraud calls

ST CORRESPONDENT

Pune: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), Pune has alerted their members and pension holders and urged them not to get lured by calls asking for an amount in return for help in withdrawing pension amount from the PF office.

Recently, a member approached the EPFO, Pune and provided the mobile number from which he received such a call on his phone. The officials have identified the numbers as 8651987465 (Rani Kumar) and 9771771662 (Raj Kajma) through True Caller and Google. The caller from this number had asked the member to help them easily get their pension if they paid Rs 20,000.

“The member approached us and immediately we searched for the number and found that this number is fictitious and none of the names is related with EPFO Pune office. We have filled a police complaint at Wanawadi police station,” said Arun Kumar, Regional PF Commissioner 1, Pune.

He said that EPFO never calls any member or pension holder to deposit money and get pension or PF amount.

“It is observed that members of the public are still receiving spurious calls in the name of officials of EPFO. The caller claimed that EPFO is distributing bonuses to the subscribers out of the funds of EPFO. Also, the fraudsters claim the member would receive bonuses being distributed by EPFO after depositing the money,” said Arun Kumar. “The caller had asked our member to provide PAN details, Aadhaar card number and bank account details for processing of withdrawal of Provident Fund/ Updation KYC of Universal Account Number (UAN),” he said.

The officials have request to members and pension holder not to lured such calls. The government organisation never demand such kind of information. If they are receiving calls they may contact PF office, Pune and call on 020-26402158/ 26449150.
