PUNE: To clear the rush of passengers during the Ganesh festival, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has pressed into service more than 770 additional buses till September 12.
Last year during the festival the PMPML ran 819 buses and in 2017, it was 469 buses.
Extra buses will also run at night as ‘Yatra Service’. An additional charge of Rs 5 will be levied on fares and the buses will start plying after 10 pm, said PMPML spokesperson Subhash Gaikwad. However, travel passes will be valid only till midnight.
The PMPML, in a press statement, said due to the festival, the internal roads in the city will be closed by the police to avoid traffic jams and the buses will ply on alternative roads.
“The service started from September 2. In the first phase, from September 3 to 4 and on September 11 the PMPML will run 170 additional buses. Similarly, from September 5 to 10 and 12 they will ply 600 extra buses.
