When firefighters reached the busy intersection, they found the tanker’s cabin engulfed in flames. The vehicle was transporting 15,000 litres of diesel and 5,000 litres of petrol from Loni. The driver jumped out in time and was unharmed.

Firefighters surrounded the tanker and continuously sprayed water from multiple sides to stop the flames from spreading to the fuel compartments. Their timely action brought the situation under control and prevented a possible explosion.

Chief Fire Officer Devendra Potphode said the vehicles arrived on time and the team acted quickly, which helped avoid a major mishap.

The firefighting team included officers Pramod Sonawane and Nilesh Lonkar, drivers Narayan Jagtap, Raju Shaikh, and Tandel Shaukat Shaikh, and firemen Baba Chavan, Chandrakant Navale, Ramdas Lad, and Avinash Dhakne.

Traffic at Shewalewadi Chowk was briefly affected but resumed soon after the fire was put out. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
