Major traffic jams witnessed all over the city

ST CORRESPONDENT

Pune: Due to the festival of Raksha Bandhan, rains and roads riddled with potholes in different areas, there was slow moving traffic on Sunday in different parts of the city.

Areas near Dagdusheth temple, Shanipar, Bajirao Road, Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth, Ganeshkhind road, Karve road, Kelkar road, Gokhale Nagar witnessed slow moving traffic. Officials from the city traffic police said that roads in Hadapsar and Katraj have many potholes, which is causing the slow moving traffic.

Similarly, the ongoing metro work on Karve road has led to narrow roads causing traffic chaos in the area.
“Traffic police were deployed at places where traffic chaos was reported. There were some places where signals were not functioning and traffic police were handling the traffic manually. As it was raining in some parts of the city and due to Raksha Bandhan, the traffic was slow moving,” said an official from the traffic department.
To solve the issues of potholes, signal breakdowns, encroachment, illegal parking and various other traffic issues, officials from Police department and Pune Municipal Corporation held a meeting on Saturday. Officials have decided to work on signal synchronisation and potholes in the city on a priority basis. Officials of fire department said no untoward incident was reported on Sunday.
