Malfunctioning traffic signal throws traffic out of gear

Sakal Times

Pune: Residents of Baner-Balewadi road are facing traffic jams for past six days as the traffic signal near the High Street is not working. The commuters are complaining continuously to the traffic department and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) office, but the signal has not been repaired.

“There was traffic jam only at night and it was difficult to take a U-turn or turn left or right because cars coming from all other directions do not stop or allow you to pass as signals are not working.

“Some of the shops near that signal are Planet Fashion, Amrit Sweets, Van Heusen and the High Street is just 100 metres away,” said Rakesh Kumar, a student staying on Balewadi Road.
Another commuter said it has been six days that the traffic signal at Balewadi crossing (known as High Street signal) has not been working.

“We informed the PMC which is responsible for repairing the signal a few days and we are continuously following up with them. We deputed two traffic policemen to manage the traffic at that junction. We are hoping it will start working by tomorrow,” said NK Ghogre, PI, Chatuhshrungi Traffic Division.
