Weather radar observations from Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi showed scattered clouds of moderate intensity over Kerala's coastal and interior regions during the past 24 hours, supporting the monsoon's further progress. After covering Kerala, the monsoon has continued its advance into parts of Karnataka.

At present, the monsoon has spread across Kerala, Lakshadweep, parts of Tamil Nadu and sections of Karnataka. Its northern limit currently passes through Mangaluru, Udhagamandalam, Kodaikanal and Thoothukudi.

The normal date for the monsoon's onset over Kerala is June 1. This year, however, it arrived on June 4, making it three days later than the long-term average.

According to IMD forecasts, the monsoon is likely to reach Goa and South Konkan within the next two to three days. If weather conditions remain favourable, it could advance further into Maharashtra over the following three to four days.

Farmers and agricultural authorities are closely monitoring its progress as timely rainfall is crucial for the upcoming sowing season.

For Pune, the first monsoon showers are expected around mid-June. The arrival of the monsoon is likely to bring relief from the persistent heat that has gripped the city in recent weeks.

Before the monsoon sets in, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast pre-monsoon rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across Pune and surrounding areas, offering temporary respite from the warm and humid conditions.
