Mumbai University announces third merit list for first year degree courses

Salil Urunkar

Mumbai: The third merit list of the first year degree course of Mumbai University has been announced. The arts branch has maintained its dominance in this list as well. Most of the reputed colleges have a cut off beyond 90 per cent even in the third merit list.

This year, the cut off in the third merit list has increased by three to four per cent over last year. As a result, most of the students were unable to get admission in reputed colleges even after obtaining good marks. Followed by arts and commerce courses, vocational courses have been popular among students.

This year, for the first time, the cut-off for science course admissions has increased by about ten to twelve per cent in the third merit list. The cut-off for the third list of science disciplines, which closed at 60 to 65 per cent last year, is between 75 per cent and 88 per cent this year. As the schedule of engineering as well as medical entrance exams has not been announced yet, most of the students have reserved admission in the regular science branch. Therefore, students who want to pursue a career in science courses will get an opportunity after the admission process for engineering and medical courses are over.
