Pune: Nana Patekar Cremated With Full State Honours; Son Malhar Lights Funeral Pyre

Thousands gather at Donje farmhouse to bid tearful farewell to veteran actor; mourners chant ‘Nana Amar Rahe’

Pune, 9th October 2026: Veteran actor Nana Patekar was cremated with full state honours at his farmhouse in Donje village late night on Thursday, October 8, as thousands of mourners gathered to pay their last respects. The 75-year-old actor’s son, Malhar Patekar, lit the funeral pyre amid chants of “Nana Amar Rahe.”

According to his associates, Nana Patekar had expressed a wish to be cremated at his farmhouse. Following his reported death at his residence in Goa due to cardiac arrest, his mortal remains were airlifted to Pune for the final rites.

A large number of fans gathered at the farmhouse to bid farewell to the actor. The atmosphere was emotional as mourners remembered his contribution to Indian cinema and chanted slogans in his memory.

Several prominent personalities from the film industry, politics and public life attended the funeral. Those reported to be present included actor Jackie Shroff, actor Makarand Anaspure, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, Pune MP and Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol, and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar.

Tributes poured in from colleagues, friends and fans, many recalling Patekar’s powerful performances, distinctive dialogue delivery and straightforward personality.

Nana Patekar earned widespread recognition for his intense acting style, memorable characters and commanding screen presence. His performances across Hindi and Marathi cinema established him as one of the most distinctive actors of his generation.
