MUMBAI/PUNE: There is no official report implying that IT firms are moving away from the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, Hinjawadi to another place due to traffic problems in the area.
Industry Minister Subhash Desai has denied the reports published in the media.
Desai was replying to the issue raised by Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil and other members in the assembly.
Even though the Hinjawadi IT Park faces traffic snarls on a daily basis and commuting is a nightmare for IT professionals, many new firms are interested in setting up their campuses at the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park (RGIP), Desai said.
At present, there are 165 companies which have their base across three phases of the park. Over 1.5 lakh techies working in various companies travel daily to the park. Over the past few months though, commuters have expressed anguish as they suffer daily due to acute traffic congestion and poor road infrastructure in the area.
“The traffic police are working on the traffic plan on an every day basis. They implemented one-way rule for the Hinjawadi traffic to ease the congestion,” he said.
“To solve the bottleneck while entering Hinjawadi, the MIDC had proposed widening of the existing road and construction of new roads. Widening approach road of Wakad Chowk to Shivaji Chowk and Shivaji Chowk to Wipro Circle has been completed. The Work on Vinode Vasti to Wipro Circle Road also has been completed,” Desai added.
“MIDC has proposed widening of Wipro circle Phase 2 to Infosys Circle Phase 2. Strengthening and reconstruction of Chande to Maan Road, that is under the jurisdiction of Zilla Parishad, is also going on,” Desai said.
“We have completed most of the work and the remaining will be completed after monsoon. However, the new proposed roads are stuck in the land acquisition process.” he added.
