NSS students become ‘Yuva Mahiti Doot’

PUNE: Students from the National Service Scheme (NSS) will volunteer as ‘Yuva Mahiti Doot’ to spread awareness about government schemes and their benefits for the students. It has also appealed to college students to take up the intiative. Meanwhile, under this role, they will make students aware about various government schemes and their benefits. 

Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has directed all its affiliated colleges to implement the ‘Mahiti Doot’ activity initiated by information and broadcast department of state government. It has instructed the colleges to encourage students to apply for this activity. Every educational institute will have representatives of the group. 

Under this initiative, the volunteers will have to complete the given target of reaching at least 50 beneficiaries in six months time and inform them about facilities and schemes provided by the State government.

“The Mahiti Doot app is available on Google play store, from where heads of NSS can guide the students and encourage them to do so. Every college will receive an user ID and password via a mail from the Information and Broadcast Ministry. If any college has not received any mail from the ministry, they can avail it from the university,” said Prabhakar Desai, Director of NSS of SPPU.

“Also, group heads should ensure as much as volunteers participate in this and they should complete the given work time of 20 hours,” added Desai.

The volunteers will be provided videos, FAQs about all kinds of students-related government schemes and documents required to apply for the schemes. The volunteers will register details of the beneficiaries in the app and receive details of scheme. These volunteers will have identity cards facilitated by the ministry.
