Pune: Gone are the days when thieves used to steal gold ornaments or digital appliances because vegetables like onions are the new thing. Yes, you read it right. The funny case of onion theft has been reported from the Junnar taluka in Pune district.

ANI reported, two people have been nabbed for stealing onions weighing around 550kg from Mauje Devjali village, in Junnar on Friday. The accused have been identified as Popat Kale and Sanjay Paradhi, according to the police. A case under 379, 511 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPL) is lodged in Narayangaon police station of Pune.

Onion price in Pune has already skyrocketed to Rs 100-Rs120 per kg due to the less supply in markets amid to heavy rains that lashed the number of regions in Maharashtra. Onion which was priced at just Rs 20 kg has now reached a new high of Rs 100-Rs 120 kg in metro cities such as Pune and Mumbai due to rising rates at Lasalgaon wholesale market situated in Nashik district. A sharp rise in the prices of onions has made them the latest gem. Can we please award them special security?
