Pune: A man who shoplifted from a store at the Delhi airport was asked to fly back from Pune airport upon landing to return a stolen bag. He was travelling on a Jet Airways flight from Delhi to Pune. The incident took place on December 10. He was caught on the CCTV camera while stealing the bag.

The man, who is an executive at a private company in Pune, stole a lady's purse from a store at the Indira Gandhi International Airport’s terminal three. He then boarded his flight to Pune, thinking he had got away with the theft.

A security officer posted at the Delhi airport said, “The passenger was travelling on Jet Airways flight 9W 795 from Delhi to Pune. He intentionally picked up a lady's purse from a shop at T3 at the airport. The passenger used to work with a multinational company in Gurugram. He, along with his luggage and the purse, went back by Jet Airways flight 9W 372 on December 10 at 8.40 pm.”

However, the security personnel were alerted about the missing bag. They tracked the man through the CCTV footage, said the CISF personnel posted at the Pune airport.

The moment the passenger landed at 4.45 pm, he was detained. The man admitted that he had shoplifted and the security personnel asked him to board an immediate flight back to Delhi to return the bag. The man went to Delhi on an 8.15 pm flight, reached Delhi at 10.30 pm and returned the bag.

He was detained and handed over to the police. However, the store did not file any complaint and he was let off. The passenger paid for the return ticket.
