PMC Begins Planning for Three New Roads in Wagholi to Ease Traffic

With Wagholi now part of PMC limits, a Detailed Project Report is being prepared to improve connectivity and reduce congestion on the Nagar Road stretch.

Pune, 30 June 2025:In an effort to tackle increasing traffic congestion and improve road connectivity in Wagholi, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the construction of three major roads in the area. This step comes after Wagholi’s official inclusion in PMC limits in 2023.

Since the merger, residents have repeatedly highlighted issues related to inadequate road infrastructure and heavy traffic on the busy Nagar Road. To address these concerns, the civic body has decided to prioritize the development of alternate routes.

PMC has begun the process of appointing a consultant to prepare the DPR. The report will include route planning, feasibility analysis, and land requirement studies, and is expected to be completed within the next six months.

As the comprehensive Development Plan (DP) for Wagholi is still awaiting approval, PMC has chosen to proceed with projects listed in the existing Regional Plan (RP) to avoid further delays. The proposed roads have been marked as high priority, given the current traffic situation.

Some internal road widening work has already started in Wagholi. However, challenges like encroachments and land acquisition issues are affecting the pace of progress. The civic body is working on resolving these hurdles while also exploring temporary traffic management measures to provide short-term relief.

These developments aim to provide much-needed infrastructure improvements in Wagholi, especially for daily commuters using the Nagar Road corridor.
