सकाळ वृत्तसेवा, Ankur Nikam

Pune, 19 July 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation's various departments, offices, and regional branches issue hundreds of tenders for different types of works, with lakhs of rupees being spent. However, the actual quality of the work often turns out to be extremely poor.

Now, the Municipal Commissioner will personally monitor such substandard work. The Commissioner has ordered that the quality and standards of all development works costing over ₹5 lakh be inspected by a third-party agency.

Ten development works or 10 percent of total tendered works, whichever is higher, will now be subject to on-site inspection by the Vigilance Department. A report on these inspections will be submitted directly to the Municipal Commissioner.

Strict action will be taken against officials found responsible for substandard work. With this directive from the Commissioner, large-scale financial misuse under the guise of development projects is expected to come to a halt, sending a strong warning to both officials and contractors.

The municipal corporation’s regional offices, zones, and main departments spend over ₹5 lakh on various development works. However, the quality of these works is often substandard and not carried out as per regulations. These projects are allegedly used as a means to siphon off municipal funds. Taking these complaints seriously, the Municipal Commissioner has begun implementing corrective measures.

Now, the quality and standards of development works involving expenditures above ₹5 lakh by various departments, branches, and regional offices of the Municipal Corporation will be inspected by the Maitreya Institution.
