Pune, 31 December 2025: A total of 3,041 nomination forms have been submitted for 165 seats of the Pune Municipal Corporation elections, indicating intense political competition across the city. On the final day alone, 2,298 nominations were filed across 41 wards, reflecting a rush of candidates from major political parties as well as independents.
The nomination process began on December 23 and concluded on December 30. During this period, 11,796 nomination forms were sold, while 743 nominations were submitted between December 23 and 29. A sharp surge was witnessed on the last day, with candidates crowding 15 ward offices until 7 pm to file their papers.
The scrutiny of nominations will be conducted today at the respective ward offices. Officials will verify documents, signatures, no-objection certificates (NOCs), and other mandatory details. Only valid nominations will be accepted.
Candidates will be allowed to withdraw their nominations until January 2, while the final list of candidates and symbol allotment will be announced on January 3.
With several candidates from the same political parties contesting in many wards, party leadership is expected to work actively during the withdrawal period to ensure official candidates remain in the fray. Failure to do so could result in rebellion by disgruntled aspirants, complicating electoral equations.
Meanwhile, the online system for issuing No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) also saw heavy response. By noon on Tuesday, 4,057 NOC applications were received. Of these, 274 were rejected based on departmental recommendations, while 3,783 applicants were granted NOCs online.
The high number of nominations highlights the political intensity surrounding the Pune civic elections, setting the stage for a closely watched contest in the days ahead.
