Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) registered less earnings (Rs 1.24 crore) on the immersion day compared to last year’s, since less number of buses were plying on roads on Tuesday.

PMPML authorities had pressed into service more than 469 additional buses to clear the extra rush of passengers during the Ganesh festival. 1,200 buses in first shift and 880 buses in the second shift were plied on the immersion day.

“On an average, PMPML earns Rs 1.65 crore on immersion day,” a PMPML officer told Sakal Times.

“This year, we earned Rs 1.24 crore on immersion day.” said Sunil Gavli, Head of Traffic Department of PMPML.

According to the official, due to the festival, the internal roads in the city were closed by the city police to avoid traffic jams and the buses were plying on alternative roads.

“From August 31 to September 5, the buses were plying on a circular route Swargate-Deccan-Shivajinagar-PMC-Pune Station-Pulgate-Swargate. The buses were plying every 10 minutes from 6 pm to 2 am,” he said.
