Police Crack Down Ahead of Pune Civic Polls, Nine History-Sheeters Sent to Jail

Preventive action aims to ensure peaceful, fear-free voting in Pune; accused have been sent to Yerwada Jail for 14 days under preventive provisions of the BNS

Pune, 2nd January 2026: Ahead of the municipal elections, Pune Police have intensified preventive measures to ensure the polls are conducted peacefully and without fear. As part of this drive, nine habitual offenders from the jurisdictions of Khadak, Deccan, and Faraskhana police stations have been taken into custody.

The action was carried out to prevent any interference in the election process and to ensure that voters can exercise their rights freely. The accused have been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody and sent to Yerwada Central Jail.

The preventive detention was executed under Section 129 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, following orders issued by Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar. The operation was conducted with the objective of avoiding any law and order issues during the election period.

The action was implemented under the guidance of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner Ranjankumar Sharma, and Additional Commissioner Rajesh Bansode. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone One) Krushikesh Rawale led the on-ground operation.

Police officials stated that such preventive measures will continue throughout the election period to maintain public safety and ensure a smooth democratic process.
