Pune, 8th July 2025: A significant power outage hit Hinjawadi on Sunday (July 6) after a malfunction in a 220 kV underground high-voltage transmission line operated by Mahapareshan (MSETCL). The disruption affected over 52,000 consumers, including key IT parks, residential societies, and industrial clients. The outage brought daily life to a standstill, especially in Hinjawadi Phase 2, where residents faced severe inconvenience, and IT companies experienced major operational disruptions.
The faulty cable, located near the Hinjawadi Phase 2 metro station, connects the 220 kV Infosys and Pegasus substations. The failure occurred around 2 pm on Sunday. Areas impacted included Exrbia Society, Kolte Patil Township, Marunji, Maan, Jambe, Nere, Dattawadi, parts of the Hinjawadi MIDC and IT Park, as well as corporate campuses like Infosys, Nextra, and the Wipro Circle zone. A total of 91 high-tension consumers experienced a complete blackout.
Repair work on the underground cable began immediately but is expected to take three to four days due to the scale of the damage. Meanwhile, MSEDCL began supplying power on a rotational basis, but this led to frequent outages across various areas. IT companies such as TCS, DLF, Cap India, Dana India, IBM, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, Cognizant, and Ascendas faced scheduled power cuts lasting up to five hours.
The power failure also triggered significant traffic congestion on Monday (July 7), as road excavation and repair work affected vehicle movement in the area. Combined with persistent rains causing waterlogging, Hinjawadi residents and IT workers were left struggling with electricity cuts, long commutes, and poor communication from officials.
Many residential areas in Maan, including Kohinoor, Coral 32 Pinewood, and Hinsel County, remained without electricity for over 24 hours, prompting growing frustration among citizens.
