Pune, 25 December 2025: In a significant political development ahead of the upcoming Pune Municipal Corporation elections, Prashant Jagtap has resigned from the post of Pune City President of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction).
His resignation comes at a critical time, dealing a setback to the party as several key leaders in Pune appear to be distancing themselves from organisational roles.
Speaking to the media after submitting his resignation, Jagtap clarified that his decision was not driven by any loss of faith in the party leadership. He said his respect, trust, and affection for Sharad Pawar remain unchanged. Jagtap noted that he spent over 26 years with the party, during which he was given multiple responsibilities that he considers a valuable part of his political journey.
Jagtap highlighted that his political work was deeply rooted in the Wanowrie area, the Hadapsar Assembly constituency, and Pune city. He credited local citizens for supporting his initiatives and said their encouragement motivated him to take to the streets whenever public issues demanded action.
Addressing recent speculation, Jagtap said that over the past few weeks there were intense discussions and rumours about how the party would contest the elections. He added that preparations had progressed up to the manifesto stage. However, continuous speculation created uncertainty about his own future role and political direction.
He explained that this internal conflict, not anger towards leaders or the party, led him to step aside. To avoid prolonged confusion and mental strain, he felt it was better to take a clear decision and resign from his position.
