Pune to Complete 12 Priority Missing Road Links Within a Year to Ease Traffic

Pune civic body revives long pending 'Missing Link' road projects; Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram says priority corridors will be completed

Pune, 27th July 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to speed up its long-pending 'Missing Link' road projects, aiming to improve connectivity and reduce traffic congestion across the city. PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram said that 12 of the 33 priority missing road links will be completed over the next year.

The project is expected to significantly improve travel between suburban areas by connecting roads that currently remain incomplete due to land acquisition and other obstacles.

700 Missing Road Links Identified

The missing link project was prepared after a road survey conducted in August 2022, which examined both Pune's Development Plan (DP) and the Regional Development Plan (RP) of the merged villages.

The survey found that several planned roads remained incomplete because of land acquisition issues, technical constraints, and other delays. According to the consultant's report, Pune has nearly 700 missing road links with a combined length of around 520 kilometres.

PMC has identified 33 high-impact road links for priority development. Although these links together measure only about 12 kilometres, completing them will create nearly 60 kilometres of continuous road connectivity, improving traffic movement across several parts of the city.

The project had witnessed little progress over the past one-and-a-half years, drawing criticism over delays. Following a recent review, Commissioner Ram directed officials to expedite the work and complete the priority corridors.

He said the civic body will also initiate compulsory land acquisition wherever required to remove bottlenecks and ensure timely completion.

Several missing link projects remain only partially constructed despite significant expenditure. One such example is the Lokmat Press–Savitri Garden road, where PMC has already spent around ₹2.5 crore. However, the road remains incomplete because the required land has not been acquired, leaving completed stretches unusable for commuters.

Officials believe completing these pending links will improve connectivity and ensure better returns on public investment.

Priority Road Links to Be Completed

PMC has prioritised the following road links for completion over the next year:

  • Rajaram Bridge to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk via Jawalkar Garden

  • Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk to Rosary School Underpass

  • Baner–Pashan Link Road

  • Ganraj Chowk to Kaspate Vasti

  • Nagaras Road (Aundh) to Balewadi Stadium via Jupiter Hospital

  • Gunjan Chowk to Kalyani Nagar–Kharadi Road

  • ABC Chowk to Tadigutta Chowk (N.M. Road)

  • Mundhwa ROB to Keshavnagar

  • Hume Pipe Road to Prayeja City Road

  • Lokmat Press to Savitri Garden

  • Navale Bridge to Wakad Service Road

PMC expects these projects to strengthen the city's road network and provide long-term relief from traffic congestion in several rapidly developing areas.
