Pune, 6th December 2025: Traffic Police have registered 13,11,134 traffic violations between January 1 and December 1, 2025, a number that amounts to almost 32% of all vehicles under the Pune city RTO.
With more than 40 lakh vehicles on the roads, officials say the scale of violations highlights a serious lapse in basic road discipline across the city.
Wrong-side driving emerged as the biggest offence with over 5 lakh cases, reflecting what officials describe as a habitual and dangerous practice on Pune’s busy roads.
Illegal parking and space obstruction followed with 4.78 lakh violations, while 1.59 lakh motorists were booked for jumping signals. Police say these violations worsen congestion, especially in commercial and high-traffic areas.
Risky behaviours continued despite repeated awareness campaigns. The police recorded 5,673 drunk driving cases, along with thousands of instances of mobile use while driving, reckless driving, tinted glass violations and seat belt non-compliance.
Officials say that although enforcement efforts have increased, public participation and adherence to rules remain inadequate.
Authorities warn that growing disregard for traffic norms will only worsen congestion and raise accident risks as the number of vehicles continues to rise each year. They stress that lasting improvement will be possible only when citizens begin following basic road safety rules consistently.
