Pune, 23 February 2026: IndiGo has cancelled its Pune–Bangkok international flight service for the upcoming summer season, beginning March 29. The airline has also withdrawn ticket bookings for both Pune–Bangkok and Bangkok–Pune sectors.
The airline has not provided any detailed explanation for the cancellation and has stated that the move is part of “operational adjustments.”
With IndiGo exiting the route, passengers travelling from Pune to Bangkok will now have only Air India Express as a direct option. Until now, both IndiGo and Air India Express operated flights on this sector.
Aviation experts say IndiGo is currently reviewing several of its international routes due to commercial and operational factors. According to industry observers, the Pune–Bangkok route did not receive the expected passenger response.
As a result, continuing the service was not considered commercially viable, leading to its suspension for the summer schedule.
Dharyashil Vandekar, an aviation expert, said, "airlines reassess their slot allocations and passenger demand every season, if a route fails to generate sufficient demand, airlines may discontinue services from a business standpoint".
He added that IndiGo may deploy the aircraft capacity on another sector where demand is stronger.
Currently, Pune Airport offers international connectivity to Dubai, Bangkok, and Abu Dhabi. The cancellation is seen as a setback for Pune’s growing international ambitions, especially at a time when there have been consistent demands to expand global connectivity.
The new terminal had raised expectations of increased international operations, but the withdrawal of an existing route highlights the challenges of sustaining overseas services.
With only one airline now operating on the Pune–Bangkok route, passengers may face limited choices and potential fare increases due to reduced competition.
