Pune, 12th May 2026: The redevelopment work at the old terminal of Pune Airport has been completed, but the facility will reopen for passengers only after mandatory security approvals are received.

Airport authorities said the required security equipment is yet to arrive and is expected to be installed by the end of May.

After the installation process is completed, a proposal will be submitted to the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) for inspection and approval. Officials said the terminal is likely to become operational in the next two to three months.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has spent nearly ₹24 crore on upgrading the old terminal. The redevelopment has improved passenger amenities and increased the airport’s handling capacity.

Pune Airport can now manage nearly 3,000 passengers per hour, while around 15 lakh additional passengers annually are expected to benefit from the expansion.

The old and new terminals have now been connected internally. Security hold areas on the upper floors of both terminals are linked, allowing passengers to move easily between the two buildings.

Airport officials said this integration will help manage passenger crowds more efficiently during peak travel hours.

The expanded waiting area can now accommodate nearly 500 passengers at a time. Four new X-ray machines and two additional boarding gates have also been added to speed up security checks and boarding procedures. The increase in check-in counters across both terminals is expected to reduce long queues and waiting time for commuters.

Pune Airport currently handles around 35,000 passengers daily and offers connectivity to nearly 40 major cities across the country.

“The redevelopment work at the old terminal has been completed and security equipment will be installed soon. After the BCAS inspection and the required modifications, the terminal is expected to receive clearance and may open for passengers by July or August,” said Santosh Dhoke, Director of Pune Airport.
