According to police, the victim was found on April 19 around 7:30 am in an open stretch of the riverbed near Bhide Bridge. He had been attacked with a sharp weapon. A murder case was subsequently registered at Deccan Police Station.

The deceased was later identified as Kushal Arun Kasbe (42), a resident of Dhankawadi, based on a tattoo on his hand. During the investigation, police traced the accused to Omkar Ganesh Kamble (27), a resident of Dattawadi, along with a minor.

Police said the motorcycle used in the crime was recovered on April 22 from the Blits Society area in Hadapsar. Mobile phones belonging to the accused were also found in the vehicle and seized as evidence. Both were taken into custody later that evening.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the murder stemmed from a financial dispute, as the victim had allegedly taken ₹70,000 from the accused. “The exact motive will be established after further interrogation,” said Senior Police Inspector Girija Nimbalkar.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of senior officials, including Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Pankaj Deshmukh.
