Pune Child Marriage: Criminal Case Filed Against Groom and 35 Others in Balewadi

Minor girl, aged around 15, allegedly married to 22 year old guy despite legal ban on marriage under 18; Baner Police investigating further

Pune, 12th May 2026: A shocking case of child marriage has come to light in the Balewadi, where 15 year old girl was allegedly married off despite legal restrictions. Following the incident, Baner Police registered a case against the groom, his family members, and several relatives involved in the ceremony.

According to police officials, the marriage took place around 1 pm on Sunday, May 10, in Balewadi. Police stated that the groom and both families were aware that she was a minor, yet the marriage was conducted in violation of the law.

After receiving information about the incident, Senior Police Inspector Chandrashekhar Sawant and other officers visited the spot and verified the details. Police constable Abhijit Ghatole later filed a complaint in the matter.

Based on the complaint, a case has been registered against the 22-year-old groom, his parents, and nearly 35 relatives connected to both families. The offence has been filed under Sections 9, 10, and 11 of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006. Notices have been issued to the accused, and further investigation is underway.

Inspector Chandrashekhar Sawant said the girl’s family belongs to a rural area and works as daily wage labourers. He added that police acted immediately after receiving information about the child marriage and confirmed the girl’s age before registering the case.
