Following his retirement, Aniruddha Pawaskar has been appointed as the next City Engineer. The appointment order has been issued by Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram. Since Saturday and Sunday are holidays, Pawaskar is scheduled to formally assume charge on Monday.

The post of City Engineer is one of the four statutory positions in the civic administration, along with Municipal Commissioner, Additional Commissioner and Health Chief.

The City Engineer oversees the construction department and all engineering-related wings of the corporation, making it one of the most influential technical roles in the civic setup.

Waghmare served as City Engineer for over 22 years. During his tenure, key projects and policies related to riverfront development, JICA-assisted works, the city development plan and building regulations were implemented.

On his last working day, officers, staff members, political representatives and members of the construction industry visited his office to extend their best wishes for his future.

Pawaskar’s appointment had been finalised earlier this month. In December, the municipal administration convened a departmental promotion committee meeting and approved his name. On January 20, he received his promotion letter elevating him from Chief Engineer to City Engineer.

With Pawaskar moving to the top post, speculation has begun over who will be appointed to head the road department, a key portfolio given the administration’s renewed focus on improving city roads.

At the same time, competition among senior officers for other important posts, including the post of Deputy Commissioner (Solid Waste Management), has intensified, though no transfer decisions have been announced so far.
