Pune, 22 December 2025: City has experienced an unusually cold December this year, with night temperatures dropping sharply over the past few days. The persistent fall in minimum temperatures has intensified the winter chill across the city, making this December the coldest in the last ten years.
So far, Pune has recorded nine days with minimum temperatures below 9 degrees Celsius, the highest such count in a decade. This prolonged cold spell has been marked by consistently chilly mornings and nights, affecting daily life across the city and surrounding areas.
On Saturday, the minimum temperature dipped to 8.1°C, the second-lowest recorded this season. This was followed by 8.4°C on Sunday, while Shivajinagar recorded 8.6°C on Monday, December 22. During this period, clear skies and dry weather conditions contributed to sharp night-time cooling.
Despite the cold nights, daytime temperatures remained relatively stable. The maximum temperature hovered around 28°C, though a slight drop of nearly two degrees was observed compared to previous days. Clear skies throughout the day and dry air made the cold more noticeable even during daytime hours.
According to the India Meteorological Department, a change in weather conditions is expected over the next two to three days. Minimum temperatures in Pune are likely to rise by around two degrees Celsius, easing the intensity of the cold spell.
The weather department has also forecast mostly clear skies, with partial cloud cover expected during the afternoon and evening. Light morning mist may occur in some areas.
From Wednesday onwards, maximum temperatures are expected to remain steady at around 29°C, while minimum temperatures could gradually increase to 12°C, bringing moderate relief from the December chill.
