Pune, 10 July 2025: Pune, known as the cultural and educational hub of Maharashtra, is increasingly witnessing disturbing cases of betrayal in the name of love and marriage. In yet another distressing incident, a young woman was allegedly deceived and physically exploited by a man who promised to marry her, only to later betray her in the most horrifying manner.
According to police reports, the 28-year-old victim had been in a relationship with the accused, Adarsh Valmik Meshram, since 2018. The two reportedly knew each other since their college days. Adarsh, an engineer employed with a private company in Hinjawadi, had developed a close relationship with the woman and established physical intimacy with her over the years under the pretext of marriage.
As their relationship progressed, the victim became pregnant. However, instead of standing by her, Adarsh allegedly mixed abortion pills into a sweet dish (rabdi) without her knowledge and forced her to consume it. This resulted in a forced abortion, according to the woman’s complaint filed with the Hinjawadi Police Station.
The woman further stated that whenever she brought up the topic of marriage, Adarsh would avoid the conversation or make excuses. She alleged that in 2024, he sexually assaulted her at a hotel, and when she resisted, he physically assaulted her.
On June 23, 2025, for Adarsh’s birthday, the woman travelled from Yavatmal to Pune to meet him. It was during this visit that she discovered incriminating evidence on his phone, revealing that he was in relationships with multiple women.
This discovery led the victim to confront one of Adarsh’s former partners, who also confirmed that she too had been deceived by him under the guise of marriage. On July 3, the victim was reportedly drugged again when Adarsh allegedly laced her dessert with abortion pills, leading to the loss of her pregnancy. After receiving medical attention, the woman lodged an official police complaint.
Based on the complaint, police have registered a case against Adarsh Meshram under IPC sections 376 (rape), 313 (causing miscarriage without woman’s consent), and other relevant provisions. The investigation is currently ongoing. This harrowing case has reignited public concern over women's safety in Pune and the alarming rise in such exploitative incidents.
