Pune, 29 July 2025: Over the past few days, Pune has seen a spike in house break-ins and thefts across several residential and commercial areas. Thieves targeted homes and shops in Lokmanya Nagar, Ambegaon, Vishrantwadi, Sahakarnagar, and Handewadi, stealing valuables worth an estimated ₹16 lakh. Most of the incidents occurred when the owners were away from their premises.
In Lokmanya Nagar, a 64-year-old woman locked her flat and stepped out on Saturday. When she returned the next morning, she found the lock broken and her cupboard ransacked. Gold ornaments and cash worth ₹7.33 lakh had been stolen. She lodged a complaint at the Vishrambaug Police Station, and Assistant Inspector Rajesh Usgavkar is handling the case.
In another incident, a couple residing in Ambegaon left their flat on Sunday morning for work. Taking advantage of their absence, thieves broke the lock and stole gold jewellery worth ₹82,000. The local police station has registered a case.
In Vishrantwadi, a doctor staying at Ganesh Apartment near Airport Road returned to find her house burgled. Jewellery and cash totaling ₹7.5 lakh were taken. She filed a complaint at the Yerawada Police Station.
Meanwhile, in Sahakarnagar’s Padmavati area, a sweet shop was broken into early Sunday morning. The thieves made away with sweets and cash amounting to around ₹4,500. A complaint has been filed and Constable Amol Pawar is investigating.
Lastly, in Handewadi’s Satav Nagar locality, burglars targeted a tyre shop. They pried open the shutter and stole tyres worth ₹55,000. The shop owner filed a complaint at the Kalepadal Police Station. Constable Pravin Kalbhor is looking into the matter.
Police have initiated investigations in all these cases, but no arrests have been made yet.
