Pune, 4th August 2026: Consistent rainfall over the catchment areas since last few days has pushed four-dam water supply system of the city to almost full capacity. As of 5 pm on Monday, the reservoirs together stored 29.01 TMC of water, equivalent to 99.54% of their total capacity.
Khadakwasla, Panshet and Varasgaon dams have reached 100% storage, while Temghar reservoir has filled up to 95.50% and is expected to reach full capacity within the next two days if rainfall continues.
With inflows remaining strong, authorities gradually increased the release from Khadakwasla Dam throughout the day. The discharge into the Mutha river rose from 5,564 cusecs early Monday morning to 29,117 cusecs by 3 pm, and remained at that level till late night.
So far this monsoon, 7.88 TMC of water has been released through the Khadakwasla spillway.
Panshet Dam, which is also at full capacity, continues to release 600 cusecs through its hydropower station. Spillway discharge was increased in stages during the day, reaching 9,534 cusecs by the afternoon before being maintained after rainfall eased.
Varasgaon Dam is likewise full, with spillway discharge raised to 9,847 cusecs. Along with 600 cusecs released through the hydropower station, the dam is currently releasing a total of 10,447 cusecs.
Meanwhile, Temghar Dam has reached 95.50% storage and is likely to become full within the next two days if the current weather pattern continues.
The combined storage across Pune's four major reservoirs now stands at 29.01 TMC (99.54%), compared with 25.76 TMC (88.38%) on the corresponding date last year.
The near-full reservoirs are expected to ensure a stable water supply for Pune, while authorities continue to regulate releases to safely manage rising water levels during the ongoing monsoon.
