The fire started around 1 pm, reportedly in the kitchen, and spread quickly, damaging household items including kitchen equipment, electrical wiring, and wall paint. The incident triggered panic among residents in the busy neighbourhood.

Fire brigade teams from Katraj and Gangadham stations reached the spot soon after receiving an alert. Using hose lines and extinguishers, they brought the blaze under control and prevented it from spreading to nearby flats.

During the operation, the personnel rescued the elderly resident, identified as Baburao Dattatray Mahamuni (99), who sustained serious burns. He was immediately taken to hospital by relatives.

The operation was led by Deputy Fire Officer Santosh Bhilare, along with teams from both fire stations. Officials said the cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Swift action by the fire brigade helped avert a major disaster in the densely populated area.
