Pune, 18 March 2026: PMC's standing committee has approved the construction of a double-decker flyover at Mahatma Phule Chowk on the Mundhwa–Keshavnagar to Kharadi bypass road.
The decision, cleared in Tuesday’s meeting, is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion on the busy Magarpatta to Kharadi route.
The project, estimated at around ₹120 crore, will feature a unique two-level structure designed to accommodate both vehicular traffic and a proposed metro line.
The metro corridor is planned to run above the flyover, and the work will be carried out in coordination with metro authorities. Additionally, a separate allocation of ₹9.42 crore has been approved for related development works.
The flyover will span a total length of approximately 1,080 meters, with the main bridge measuring around 769 meters. It will have a width of 16 meters and include dual carriageways for smoother traffic movement. Approach roads of 136 meters on the Kharadi side and 148 meters on the Mundhwa side will connect the structure seamlessly.
A total of 36 piers will be constructed for the project, including 28 on the road and eight within the riverbed. Adjustments in payments will be made based on changes in foundation levels, structural design, and government GST policies. The project is expected to be completed within 24 months, excluding the monsoon period.
According to standing committee chairman Shrinath Bhimale, the flyover will greatly improve traffic flow in Mundhwa, Keshavnagar, Kharadi, and surrounding areas, offering long-term relief to daily commuters.
