  2. Extended Rain: Normal to above-normal rainfall forecast through December.

  3. Cooler Days: Maximum temperatures expected to be below-normal.

Pune, 3rd October 2025: People living in Pune and across Maharashtra can expect a break from the usual discomfort this year. Normally, after the main monsoon season ends, the state faces the intense, hot conditions known as 'October heat.'

However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that Maharashtra will not experience this heat and will enjoy cooler weather instead.

The encouraging news is that during the post-monsoon season from October to December 2025, the IMD predicts that Maharashtra will receive rainfall amounts that are normal or slightly above the average. Furthermore, the maximum temperatures are expected to be normal or a bit cooler than usual. This combination of more rainfall and lower temperatures indicates a pleasant shift from the typical autumn heat.

IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra explained the forecast by saying, "Our models suggest that most of the country, including Maharashtra, is expected to see normal to above-normal rainfall during this period." This prolonged wet spell indicates that the monsoon season is extending beyond its usual duration. The main exception to this positive outlook is Northwest India, which includes states like Rajasthan and Delhi, where less rainfall is expected.

The IMD predicts that in October, the country will receive rainfall that surpasses the monthly average by more than 15%. This extended rainy period is advantageous for farmers and aids in sustaining water reserves. However, officials caution that the heightened rainfall raises the risk of localized flooding.

In conclusion, the forecast suggests a delightful autumn for Pune and Maharashtra, marked by extended rainfall and cooler temperatures, with a significant portion of India also enjoying this uncommon, favourable weather pattern.
