Pune, 5th May 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has identified 56 locations across the city that are expected to remain vulnerable to waterlogging during the upcoming monsoon, as several key infrastructure projects will not be completed in time.
Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram has instructed all ward offices to put temporary drainage systems in place at these spots. He has also directed officials to ensure adequate deployment of manpower and machinery to handle water accumulation during heavy rainfall.
The directions were issued during a review meeting on pre-monsoon preparedness held on Monday. According to civic officials, a total of 120 waterlogging-prone locations have been identified across Pune. Work at 64 of these sites is expected to be completed within the next month, but the remaining 56 will require more time.
The pending projects include construction of new stormwater drains, installation of additional drainage chambers, replacement of old pipelines, and development of a stronger rainwater disposal system. Officials said such works need significant funding and typically take six to eight months to complete.
Given the delays, the administration is prioritizing short-term measures to minimize flooding and ensure quicker drainage during intense rainfall. The commissioner also expressed concern over the slow progress of desilting work in drains and nullahs, asking officials to speed up the process.
To improve oversight, ward offices have now been asked to submit daily progress reports instead of weekly updates. Officials said the immediate focus will be on managing the situation during the monsoon through temporary solutions, while long-term infrastructure upgrades will continue after the rainy season.
