Pune, 19th May 2026: After intense heat for the past week, temperature is finally set to drop to in the coming days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), both maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius by the end of the week in Pune.
The city has been witnessing unusually high temperatures over the past several days. On Monday, the Lohegaon Airport observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 41.4 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25.4 degrees Celsius, both above normal levels.
Meanwhile, Shivajinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25.5 degrees Celsius.
The IMD has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by rain towards the end of the week. The expected pre-monsoon showers are likely to bring much-needed relief from the scorching heat currently affecting the city and nearby areas.
Weather experts have also indicated that changing wind patterns and increased moisture are contributing to the possibility of rainfall activity across parts of Maharashtra.
Along with the expected rainfall, the southwest monsoon is also progressing faster than usual this year. According to forecasts, the monsoon is expected to reach the Konkan coast by June 5 and may arrive in Pune around June 10 if conditions remain favourable.
The early progress of the monsoon has raised hopes for cooler weather across Maharashtra after weeks of rising temperatures and heatwave-like conditions.
