Pune, 30th September 2026: PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram has directed officials to complete the 50-metre-wide Katraj-Kondhwa Road project by March 2027 and open it to traffic. The road widening project, which has been delayed for nearly a decade, is expected to ease congestion in the area. He has also instructed officials to complete land acquisition for the proposed 84-metre-wide road by March 2028.
Ram, along with MLA Yogesh Tilekar, PMC House Leader Ganesh Bidkar and officials from the civic body, the Special Land Acquisition Office and the National Highways Department, inspected the Katraj-Kondhwa Road and the Katraj Junction flyover. During the inspection, officials reviewed pending work and identified obstacles delaying the projects.
Land belonging to 10 property owners is yet to be handed over to the PMC for road widening. Officials have been directed to contact the owners and obtain their consent within a month. The commissioner also instructed the departments concerned to ensure timely funding and complete the land acquisition process for the 84-metre-wide road by March 2028.
Most of the service road work has been completed. Officials have also been asked to remove electricity poles and transformers obstructing the grade separator construction without further delay.
The NHAI is constructing a flyover at Katraj Junction, which will connect to the Katraj-Kondhwa Road. Once completed, the flyover will allow heavy vehicles to bypass parts of the city, helping ease traffic congestion. NHAI Executive Engineer Shruti Naik said the project is targeted for completion by the end of December 2026.
Bidkar said the inspection focused on resolving hurdles and accelerating the pending work. He added that officials had been instructed to complete the delayed land acquisition process within a month and ensure the availability of the required land.
He said all concerned departments would coordinate to complete the project within the stipulated deadlines and provide relief to commuters facing traffic congestion.
