Pune, 22nd May 2026: A shocking acid attack incident took place after a 21-year-old woman living in a live-in relationship was allegedly attacked by a man over one-sided love. The accused was later arrested by the Crime Branch from Hubballi in Karnataka.
The arrested accused has been identified as Shriram Madhu Sarunwar (30), a native of Betul in Madhya Pradesh. According to police, the victim and her friend work at The Miller Hotel in Pune and were returning home after finishing work around 2 am on Wednesday. When they reached the Tadiwala Road area, the accused intercepted them on the road.
Investigators said the woman had refused to stay with Sarunwar and was instead living with her friend in a live-in relationship. Angry over this, the accused confronted her and threatened that if she would not stay with him, he would not allow her to belong to anyone else. He then allegedly threw an acid-like substance at her.
The woman suffered severe burn injuries on her neck, back and both legs in the attack. Her friend was also injured after the accused threw the substance at him when he tried to help her.
Based on the woman’s complaint, Bundgarden Police registered a case and launched a search operation. After the attack, the accused fled Pune and escaped to Karnataka.
Using technical analysis and informer inputs, the Crime Branch traced his location and arrested him from Hubballi. Investigation in the case is underway.
