Pune: Officials of Pune Mahametro will be working with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to design two skywalks, which will help people reach the metro stations. In the first phase of development of metro stations, Mahametro is working on the seven-km corridor from Vanaz to civil court area, which is a part of Vanaz-Ramwadi metro corridor.
Gautam Birhade, Chief Project Manager (Reach- 2) for the Pune Metro project, said that the plan for development of skywalks is in the initial stage. "We are discussing our plans with the PMC. We have conducted a survey. The first skywalk will start from Deccan metro station and connect to the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus stop at Deccan, ending at Good Luck Chowk on Fergusson College Road. The skywalk will touch the footpath and will be useful for commuters. Another skywalk from the same station will end in the Peths. People wanting to access this Metro station from both sides will be able to utilise the skywalk."
He added that the second skywalk will start from Sambhaji Garden station and end on Jangli Maharaj Road on one side, and in the Peth areas on the other side.
Earlier, Brijesh Dixit, Managing Director of Mahametro had said that metro will be working with public transport facilities like PMPML and railways so that people have many integrated options for commuting. Mahametro will also be working in providing payment cards for such multimodal commuting.
