Pune, 27th August 2026: A 30-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his father following an argument over eating mutton during the ongoing Shravan month in Warje Malwadi.
The deceased, Mahesh Bhagwat Gaikwad, was allegedly attacked by his father, Bhagwat Suryabhan Gaikwad, 64, after Mahesh came home drunk and demanded mutton curry. The family was observing Shravan and had stopped preparing non-vegetarian food at home.
According to police, Mahesh regularly consumed alcohol and would often argue with his father. On August 24, he returned home after drinking and insisted that his family prepare mutton curry.
His demand reportedly led to a heated argument. During the dispute, his father allegedly assaulted him on the face and head. Mahesh sustained severe injuries and died in the incident.
Police said Mahesh’s mother, Parvati Bhagwat Gaikwad, 60, allegedly knew about the assault and death but did not inform the authorities. She is also accused of helping her husband conceal or destroy evidence.
Both parents have been arrested, and a case has been registered at Warje Malwadi Police Station. Further investigation is underway.
Mahesh had been living alone after his wife left him several years ago due to his alcohol addiction and lack of employment. The couple later divorced, and his wife and two children live with her family.
Police said Mahesh frequently visited his parents for meals, and disagreements over his drinking and demands for non-vegetarian food had occurred several times before the fatal incident.
