Pune, 7th October 2025: Pune Metro, which serves Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, has achieved a major milestone by carrying over 10 crore passengers since its launch on March 6, 2022. The metro has become an important mode of transport, offering a fast, comfortable, and eco-friendly way for residents to commute.
Shravan Hardikar, Managing Director of Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro), said that the metro has helped improve travel in the region, and the corporation is focused on completing the remaining phases and enhancing services further.
Ridership on Pune Metro has steadily increased with each expansion phase. At its launch, the daily ridership was around 20,000–30,000. After the extension from Phugewadi to Civil Court and Garware College to Ruby Hall Clinic in August 2023, it rose to 1–1.1 lakh passengers daily.
Completion of the East-West corridor in March 2024 increased daily usage to 1.2–1.3 lakh, and the underground route from District Court to Swargate, opened in September 2024, further boosted daily ridership to an estimated 1.6–2 lakh.
The steady growth in passenger numbers reflects Pune Metro’s rising importance as a convenient and sustainable transport option for the city and its neighbouring areas.
